New details in the Brittanee Drexel case.

I think the idea that sex trafficking happens to "good girls" speaks to deep fears of the unknown.

And yeah. There are soooo many marginalized young women, who don't have caring families looking out for them, that are much more easily victimized in many and varied ways.

I didn't grow up a safe middle class kid. I was on my own at 16. I had plenty of friends that were even worse off- homeless at 14, foster kids who were kicked out suddenly, abused kids and so forth- and I definitely saw terrible things happen to them and to me and there were no adults around to care what happened to anyone.

Why go to the trouble of risking physically snatching some girl who might have parents who kick up a fuss, who might scream and freak out, when there are so many more in squats, on the streets flying signs, or actively prostituting already that are just as pretty and young? It's much easier to go after the gorgeous teenage girl with track marks out spare changing. Nobody will miss most of them, and it's sadly obvious how to control someone in a situation like that.

And even then I suspect it's just usually a pimp "boyfriend" manipulating women who were already either in the life or on the road to it. Not the sort of organized trafficking most people think of.
