As a new doctor hoping to avoid some major screwups, what’s the worst interaction you’ve ever had with a physician?

Where I'm from we have a huge problem with doctors being completely uninterested in exploring any symptoms you go in with.

For example, if I went to my doctor and said 'Hey doc, I have a stabbing pain in my side', she would just kind of shrug it off and be like 'welp, it's probably stress - get some painkillers and take a day off work'.

No, if you want to actually pursue a diagnosis with a specialized doctor, you have to either to go a private clinic or google-fu your symptoms, take a stab at which specialist you need and then go to your doctor and outright ask her to refer you to an endocrinologist or an internist or a gastroenterologist or wherever.

They'll refer you no problem if you ask, they just will never volunteer to do it or suggest it.

So, uh...don't do that. Make an effort to diagnose your patients and send them where they need to go to get better.
