New Draftpick & Dynamic Queue Feedback Megathread

TL DR; Normals have had this Dynamic Queue type matchmaking where all soloq members could be placed against premade 5s or 4s or 3s and it's frustrating to get stomped by 5 people on TS. The same concern people have about Dynamic Queue. I submitted a ticket to Riot in 2014 and they said this is a fair system. I'm wondering why there are double standards when they will be trying to "fix" Dynamic Queue for ranked

Since this Dynamic Queue is getting a lot attention, I'd like to point out that this unfair system has existed in normals for the LONGEST time and Riot has refused to do anything about it. I submitted a ticket to them more than a year ago after being frustrated that I've been getting matched with multiple premades vs a full solo q team. I would think the same logic about "fairness" would apply to normals even if they aren't competitive modes and that there is no excuse to have this broken matchmaking there also.

>Ticket 1 (August 9 2014)

Hello, in my Normal Queue (Blind pick) I'm being matched up with Premades all the time. Could you please tell me if this intended that 5 or 4 men are being matched with 5 complete strangers, some of whom just hit level 30 also.

This has been happening ALMOST EVERY game for me and its not fun, it's not fair, it makes people upset (me). Could anything be done about this?

Here are my past 3 games, before I submit this ticket. All of them with enemy having a premade while my team doesn't. And for example, say my team had premades, it wouldn't be fair to the enemy either.

Please do something about this... My complaint is not that I'm getting matched with "better" people than me (ex: Diamond players) because I understand that those MMRs are kept seperate b/w Normal and Ranked, and I would like being matched up with those guys anyways so I could get better. But having being ganged up as 5 Solo q or even 2 premade vs a group of 5 is unreasonable and for a game calling itself an actual sport, this match making system is not setting a good example.

Thanks

PR Response that doesn't address the issue.

Greetings Summoner,

I appreciate the screenshot and I am sorry if you are getting matched up with premades in almost every normal game you have. Thank you for understanding on how MMR works and indeed playing against better players, makes us better and you can improve a lot when you are matched up with them.

I totally understand that sometimes it is unfair as those who queue up together for a game has better teamwork compared to 5 guys who just got together in that game. We don't intend to make the Rift an unfair place for everyone playing. Rest assured, we make frequent updates to our Matchmaking program in order to improve matchups. Taken as a system, players generally compete with other players of similar skill. Occasionally, bad matchups do happen, and we implement new methods when we find them to improve matchmaking. For example, your total number of wins in each queue have taken into account, so when you play Summoner's Rift, you will play against players with a similar number of wins.

For details on matchmaking, check out our Knowledge Base: https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/22847835-Matchmaking-Guide

If you feel improvements could be made to the matchmaking system, you can contact [email protected] with your ideas.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this has given you and if you have other questions, please do let me know.

What Riot did after this to "fix the issue":

Basically turned off the ability to tell if someone's premade.

Could you please give me an actual explanation instead of a bullshit one, because this doesn't happen "occasionally" as I have said to you. This is happening more than 80% of the time where the teams are put between 4 or 5 queues vs all solo or 1 duoq.

here have more screenshots, http://i.imgur.com/yudme9B.png http://i.imgur.com/AsukwNg.png http://i.imgur.com/HyY9GCc.png

If I won't get a proper response, I'd be happy to record you every game I play from now on and screenshot every single team. Then will you guys give me a proper explanation or at least tell us what is being done to fix this.

From what I can see right now, it's matching the total numbers of wins on one team and trying to get another team with a similar number of total wins, regardless if a party is premade or regardless of how many wins each individual has. So that explains why I've been seeing teams with lv 29's or newly hit lv 30's with people that have 3,000 wins.

Please tell me if you need more proof that this isn't happening "occasionally" like you mentioned.

This nonsense again:

Greetings again,

I'd be happy to explain further. At its most basic level, the MMR system is a method used for calculating the skill level of players in a head to head game. League of Legends uses a proprietary version of this system in order to place you against challenging opponents in a match.

There are many other factors at play when a match in League of Legends is being formed, but these are the basics of how the MMR system operates.

At its core, comparing the MMR rating of two players will give you a rough idea of who is more likely to win a match. In the case of Solo/Duo Queue, the ratings of each team member are aggregated. The greater the differential between the two ratings, the more strongly the odds favor the higher rated team of players. In the Ranked Team Queue, your rating will reflect your team's performance as a single entity and will not reflect your personal rating.

Once the match is complete, the winning players earn a number of MMR and League Points based on the expected result of the match, and the losing team loses that many points. The number of points exchanged is based on how heavily favored one team was over the other. A team that was heavily favored to win earns fewer points for a victory than an underdog team.
