The new Golden Age of Steam

I think we have a few things to thank for this new golden age:

  1. Epic. Fortnite came out of nowhere and shocked everyone. It gave the gaming industry a kick in the pants in a big way. It's cooled down a lot since 2018, but it got a ton of people into PC gaming and gaming in general, and of course, the Epic Games Store happened. Steam had to differentiate themselves and I am certain the speeding up of shipping of Steam features that had been in the work for years, and creation of new ones is part of that. Leading me into my next point...

  2. Valve 2.0. Valve as a developer has gone from a punchline to actually shipping games and hardware. Being more communicative with the community, and generally just having any presence whatsoever.

  3. COVID-19 lol
