New here and wanted to get the PL perspective on the topic of social programs

First, this is not a way to talk to someone and certainly not someone who said they are open to being convinced to join your position. You seem sanctimonious and unless you practice a consistent life ethic I think you should humble yourself. Unless I were a proper practicing catholic and against abortion, against the death penalty, in favor of social spending and in favor of gun control I wouldn't be acting high and mighty but that's just me.

To answer your first question, to the extent I feel troubled about the moral question of abortion it is that I don't feel any of us are authorities or definitively know when life begins. I think it's clear to me and I think most fair-minded people that life begins during the 9 months of gestation before the baby is delivered but when? Personally, I feel the answer becomes obvious after 6 months.

I do NOT believe it's murder to abort a fetus in the first trimester. I do not think it is a red herring to poke holes in someone's faulty reasoning. Universal healthcare for all, gun control and social spending on our people will save a lot more lives than the hypocritical position you appear to hold. Why do most people have abortion? Financial reasons....
