New Jersey cops told to halt all use of controversial facial-recognition technology

This situation had me thinking the other night. A lot of governments, agencies, and police forces have made it abundantly clear that they would like to use this technology. For example, Hong Kong is already implementing this tech to some degree to identify protestors for later round up. What interests me is not the usage of this tech, but this response... Seemingly overnight, hong kong civilians had anti facial recognition masks, some of which were clear. I firmly believe that when governments and police inevitably begin to roll out this tech, theres going to be a major up tick in these masks. Just seems kind of ironic that the government using facial recognition is going to be the exact reason people will get away with crimes because now people are going to be more aware than ever on how to hide their face. Hell, instagram, etsy, and amazon will be selling "designer" face blocking masks even for the people that aren't concerrned about the surveillance issue. So if everybody wears these masks, then how will the police know, who is who?
