New Jersey governor pleads with Covid-fatigued residents to choose inconvenience over death: "You know what's really uncomfortable and annoying? When you die."

I really hate to say it this way, but even more of the burden lies with you, healthcare workers. You need to get on the biggest platform available to you and share your experiences and knowledge with COVID, continually. It's not a fair ask with you guys already dealing with so much from this virus, but when I, a non healthcare professional, engage with someone and explain the clinical severity of this virus, it means very little. It doesn't matter that I've read almost every major journal that was published on the virus the first few months of its existence, doesn't matter how well I understand the potential severity of it or the complications. I also followed the plight of healthcare workers in the hotspot areas through the spring, reading various medical subreddits and finding myself completely aghast at what some of you have gone through. You have my fullest sympathy and support for the fight that you guys are engaged in.

So I feel terrible in having to lay yet another burden at your feet. But we need you guys to get more active in shouting down the stupidity. I think you guys are very fucking understandably tired and have generally kept yourselves focused on treating patients and saving lives, as well as protecting yourselves, rightfully. I really think we need to see the collective voices of healthcare workers stand up and say, "STOP THE BULLSHIT." Get on Youtube and make videos, start a blog, create Reddit posts, speak publicly; whatever outlet is available to you, do it. And encourage your colleagues to do the same. Enough is enough.
