New NBA fan, think I'm gonna support the rockets next season :)

Again, I'm not trying to diminish what D'Antoni did, I (unlike a lot of people who weren't happy about his the Rockets hiring him) really like and admire him. And I'm not trying to argue with you either. I'm just saying that I think position-less really doesn't match up with the fact that his offense really only succeeded when it was run by the ultimate position player, one of the truest PGs of all time in Steve Nash. So to reconcile that, I think it's less about his offense being position-less, and more about recognizing that you not only don't need to make the traditional tradeoff of giving up shooting range and quickness for size, but with current rules, the right tradeoff is inverted.

As for whether this is cyclical or not, I agree to some extent. But the cycle is still driven by NBA policy and by rules. It's not like the shift away from big-man/low-post play is just a matter of fashion, it's very much a function of the rules.
