Give a new player advice you wished you would have received in the beginning!

This is what I wished someone had told me:

If you're playing in Survival mode and you're starting out with the Space Taxi (yellow ship), as soon as you spawn in TURN OFF ALMOST EVERYTHING. You want your reactor on but turn off everything else when you finally get to an asteroid because your power is your most precious resource. Pay very close attention to the "Power time remaining" when you're in the flight chair. When i started out, I had 15 minutes of power with everything on. When I stripped down to minimals just for basic flight, I went from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

Getting to your first asteroid should be done 99% unpowered via "coasting" and then that last 1% coming to a stop near an asteroid. When you start moving, turn off inertial dampeners to get the ship rolling, and then shutdown (Y). When you get close to your destination, turn the reactors back on (Y again), and then enable inertial dampeners to bring the ship to a halt.

Turn off thrusters, gyro, gravity gen, med bay, refinery, assembler, lights, door(be sure to open it first), etc. but leave the reactor on so the flight chair stays powered. Go mine your resources (find uranium first if you can), and place them in the refinery and repeat until you need to recharge your suit. While you're sitting in teh captain's chair, start your refinery and shut it off once the refinery runs out of materials (it consumes power even when idle). The more uranium you get, the longer your runtime will be. When you get about a week of runtime, start mining iron and other resources so you can start work on a miner ship.

Make sure that as you descend into the asteroids, you never forget where your ship is or how to get out. I've died a few times because I got lost in the twisting tunnels insire of an asteroid and panicked when I got low power. Don't panic, keep your head on straight and you'll be fine. Use the GPS features in your menu to navigate out and thank goodness that feature exists in the first place.
