[New player] Middle-class career options?

Is the fuel business as fun as that? If a venture forces me to do a bit of everything, it's clearly appealing. For instance, I thought being a bullet manufacturer would be fun at first, but the recipe is so simple. So, regarding fuel blocks: would mining make it too easy? Does getting materials and crafting fuel blocks force me to do many varied tasks? Please do confirm, because that sounds like something I might enjoy a lot - out of all the brilliant feedback I've have in this thread!

what is fun ? it's certainly gonna take you on a quest. while on that quest, you're gonna have to do a lot of things. all of these are considered fun by some, morally questionable by many and boring by others.

you need to find out which skills to train, so that you'll have them ready in time

you need to find out where to get the ressources from, so you'll have them ready in time. remember that you won't be allowed to buy the ice/isotopes, and you also won't be allowed to mine it yourself. that means you need to find a different way to aquire it. there are many, and most of them are morally questionable

you need to find out more about blueprints. do you need a researched one or not ? you certainly don't want to loose money while making the blocks, aren't you ? and do you know where you can get researched blueprints ? do you want to pay the premium or do your own research ? and will that research be done on time ?

that's a whole lot of questions to find an answer for.

i picked fuel blocks not because they are the best item to build (they actually are a terrible item compared to other things you could build if you only look at financials).

I picked them because building them from absolute scratch and without mining ice is an interesting task for someone who want's to learn a bit about making money in eve. it's up to you if you consider it a fun task

Building other things is extremely profitable. i personally make about 2 billion ISK every fortnight from industry and a couple hundred million per month from various trade and market manipulation adventures. seeing my wallet grow and my impact on the market is great fun for me, freightering stuff around or extracting ressources is something i personally consider extremely boring. there is no way around flying freighters, but i have completely outsourced ressource extraction to others (i buy all materials of the market)

If there is something profitable (middle-class revenue) where I have to like scan to fin locations to get rare items/materials, then work hard to refine/transform, then build/package/modify, then maybe transport and finally sell - a long cycle with a worthy payoff - that would be the best career ever!

some blueprint copys drop from exploration sites. if you want, you can go ahead and build with them. sometimes that's gonna increase the profit over just selling the BPCs on contracts, sometimes you'll actually loose money by building from them.

most of these are trivial to build (modules and ships), others require a huge amount of work (drugs). you can only find the ressources and blueprints deep in hostile territory, you need a POS in order to actually make the drugs, and on top of that, they are illegal in highsec, so the drug market basically only exists in Thera. in order to get there, you need to scan a way there, and actually get your drugs inside without being killed. that's a whole lot of things that need to happen before you can reap your profits.

You could also go and read a few things about T3 Cruisers and Destroyers that are made from stuff only found in wormholes, but i never made these, and i have no idea if everything you need to make them can be aquired by a solo player
