New to the simple/minimal lifestyle but feeling I should want more for myself

Your post reminds of a Still Game episode where Jack (a pensioner and a widower) moves out of his apartment and his friends give him shit about amassing so few possessions over the course of his life. It kind of bugged me because I'm the same; in the sense that I don't have lots of stuff. The only thing I used to collect was books but now I just read ebooks and rarely ever buy physical books, and even give away the ones I've already read. I've been playing guitar for more than 10 years but only own a classical guitar, an electric guitar and an amplifier. I'm in my late 20's and I've always been amazed at how people live with so much useless clutter. That said, the older I get, the more I get it. I get why people like to have more "stuff". Despite not being an indication of happiness by any means, some possessions can bring you contentment, comfort and even a sense of achievement if you're mindful of them. However if you don't feel the need, then definitely don't let social pressure or market programming push you in a direction you don't want to take. I always try to think about how my mess will become someone's else problem after I'm gone and it makes me super cautious about my lifestyle choices.
