New study probes the genetic roots of transgender identity

"It's good to see [the research] back up what we already know — that we are who we are," says Goldner. "It's not so good if people don't seem to fit some sort of genetic test, if that was ever developed."

I am always a little scared of studies like this for this same reason. It already seems like the majority of cisgender people believe there should be safeguards and tests in place before someone is allowed to medically transition, even though delaying or preventing the treatment of a transgender person can be life-altering (or life-endangering). As much as I would like it verified that I am trans simply because I lost some kind of genetic lottery, the idea of cisgender people having some scientific evidence for gatekeeping is terrifying.
