I think the series' politics changed over time to become less nuanced. Rhys' speech at the end of tales 1 was all about how businesses can still maximize profits for shareholders while treating their employees with respect and leaving a positive impact on the world. He wanted to be different than Jack.

New Tales threw all that in the trash, turning Rhys into a complete ass because "capitalism bad."

Borderlands never would have existed without capitalism. Randy Pitchford never would have been able to found Gearbox and get rich without capitalism. When BL2 launched, the bonuses for Gearbox employees were so big that they were able to buy houses. That never would have happened without capitalism.
