New Zealand women wear headscarves to support Muslims after shootings

No woman in New Zealand is 'forced' to wear hijab as our nations laws enable women to have the freedom of their own choices, however a place of worship such as a marae, mosque or christian church might have rules about attire that are to be respected.

Some (not all) women in New Zealand are simply following the choices made by the Muslim women and families of the mosques in Christchurch that we are grieving with, to show respect as we support them. It is a choice made independent of coercion and similar to how a woman might choose to wear black to a funeral as a mark of respect for the family, rather than just turning up in any old frilly sunfrock. It is a choice made for Fridays' public mourning, and has been rather graciously acknowledged and received by people of the Muslim faith here in NZ

I challenge you to imagine a bunch of people turning up at your family members' funeral without showing due consideration to your faith, especially if their death was as a result of prejudice AGAINST your faith?

However, your opinion is valued and we thank you for your input.
