Newbie here! Only have used acrylics, I have oils, I know they’re a pain in the ass, but I was wondering if there were any big upsides? Anything easier or different in using oils that I couldn’t get from acrylics?

Makes painting more fun imo, because they're good for blending when it feels like you have to fight acrylic to blend anything. And acrylic dries to everything and leaves crumbles. Also I don't think they're a pain in the ass, in fact I think acrylic is much more of a pain in the ass. With acrylics you need to hurry or paint will dry on the palette or brush, or spend time adding mediums, or set up a wet palette. Oils omit a lot of that. The palette and brushes can sit out for a long time, and there's only 1 or 2 things I add to them: Gamsol is a solvent with no smell that thins the oils and speeds drying, linseed oil also makes the paint more fluid and slows drying. Then I put the palette in a freezer, which substantially slows drying. So it's easy to pick up where you left off. Another thing is that oils may be more expensive, but a little pigment goes a long way.

However if you want to use flat colors in layers (like cartoons) acrylic is better for that.
