[Newbie] Picking up my first electric guitar tomorrow, super excited!

If you have the space for it, definitely consider a tube amp. If not, go for a good solid state. I'd highly recommend the Yamaha THR-10, Boss Katana or even one of the Vox Adio amps. Those are all around $300 and amazing value. I got hundreds of hours of use out of my THR-10 and this sub recommends it consistently, the Katana is also very highly recommended.

Since you've already been playing for a year, my only tip for going to electric is it's gonna take you a while to learn how to 'control' the sound. It takes way less energy to play an electric guitar because the amp does so much work for you. Get good at muting strings and learn how to dial in an amp so it doesn't sound like a swarm of bees!
