News : Increased pricing

Regarding the manufacturing there is certainly an argument to be made that GW choosing to keep their factories in the UK is promoting & proving the idea that a company can work within a set of higher standards, regulations and workers rights than most places in the world and still succeed which is a good for all. We are all aware of how many companies are choosing to move their manufacturing base to the developing world so they can exploit low paid workers and weak standards of regulation to improve their profit margins. Realistically it's never a like for like transition in terms of salaries and benefits because the move is always driven by a profit motive as no company would ever move their manufacturing half way around the planet simply on a charitable basis.

On a wider note the idea that there are plenty of good manufacturing jobs available in developed countries doesn't match the prevailing direction of travel. What we are instead seeing is that inequality between the "haves and have nots" is growing rapidly in both developed and developing countries as wealth is concentrated in the hands of the few. Maximised human well-being will not be achieved by creating a new owner aristocracy with a poor renter class working in an economy mainly comprised of service jobs.

Globalised manufacturing is also a significant problem in terms of greenhouse gas emissions so locating their factories near their largest market is significantly reducing their overall climate impact.
