Newton post game. Sore loser edition.

I seriously don't understand how you don't see the difference between how he celebrates and how most people celebrate.

First, there's celebrations that truly are a spontaneous show of emotion-- fist pumps, jumping up and down, squatting/thrusting hips, etc. Very few people have a problem with this because we've all been there. Sometimes you want to jump up and down and celebrate.

Then there are the cocky dances. These are less universally liked, especially among your conservative types. But most people are coming around on these-- we get it, you have a little signature step you do or whatever.

But there are a few celebrations that most people just can't get over. Kissing your biceps, a la Kapernick, or ripping open your shirt to reveal that you are Superman-- these aren't little displays of emotion. They're cocky little branding devices that show how awesome you are. But even these, people get over-- along with the belt celebration.

But Cam throws his directly in the other team's face, and he does it over and over. Same thing, every game. I mean look, everyone does that shit from time to time-- but usually get get shat on for it, and then don't do it next game. I mean think about how ODB behaved against Carolina-- he did a bunch of taunting, in-your-face type celebrations, and everyone hated on him for it. But does he do that every game? No. Usually he does the type in the first to second category-- a little excited dance, maybe with some strutty steps.

And usually the people with the extended celebrations are not quarterbacks, by the way-- because they are in a position where if they have an obnoxious celebration, they are going to be doing it again and again and again. People us the "championship belt" celebration or a little fist pump to illustrate our unfair double-standards... but that's bullshit. Not only that, but does Rodgers do that celebration reliably all the time? No. He does it once in awhile. And look at Cam vs Titans. What do you think Aaron Rodgers would do if he did his little belt celebration and an opponent got in his face? He'd walk the fuck off the field, he wouldn't do it 3 more times then go get back in the defenses face to taunt them some more.

Yes, it's subjective... but it's clear to most people. There's a huge difference between his celebration and that of other players, in terms of the frequency of it, the length of it, the attitude/tone of it, and who he directs it at.

By the way, the hate on Cam didn't start when he started his dab dance, at least not to a significant degree-- it happened after that Carolina game. yeah, there were a few people talking about it, but that's when it got big.

What I want to see is how he goes forward. He's kind of put himself in a bad place, I think. This is probably the best year he'll ever have in the NFL. If he goes back to dabbing next year, and loses a handful of games, everyone will take pleasure in his defeats and expose him to more of the harsh questioning that he doesn't handle well. But he can't back down without eating a huge dose of humble pie.

Here's my bet on what will happen: he won't be mature enough to think much about it, he'll go into next year without a pre-planned celebration, and if he has a losing season, he'll be a shit-talking bad teammate poor leader. But if they start winning, he'll just forget about today, and go right back to thinking he's the greatest, and dabbing all over the place (or whatever new dumb dance he's got).
