Next Cubs HoF inductee

He wouldn't go in as a Cub but I just realized that Ben Zobrist is actually on the cusp if you consider the kind of writers who will be voting for the HoF by the time he's eligible.

Here's my case:

By JAWS score, only 4 retired 2nd basemen are better than him who aren't in the HoF

From 2009-2017, he was a top 10 player by fWAR and most of the players better than him will be in the HoF (Trout, Votto, Cabrera, Cano, Cutch, Beltre, Longoria)

In the 11 seasons since his debut, Cano is the only 2nd baseman better than him by fWAR
His career WAR only lags against previous HoF'ers because he got a late start - didn't become a full-time player until he was 28

He has had the kind of post-30 year old career that it takes to get into the HoF (it's just that most of those players get into the league at 22-23)

He has one of the most famous hits in the history of Major League Baseball and the hit that essentially broke the curse - this may not seem important on its own but nearly every borderline Hall of Famer who got in has their signature moment or signature season
