The point of this game is to survive. Move on to the next week. That's why it's called survivor pool.

I realize to each their own, but I wouldn't plan more than a few weeks in advance. Loads of things can happen beyond then that change the lines massively.

I'll give you a classic example of why this strategy of saving bigger teams for later doesn't work for me. Last week. The Detroit Lions came off a huge week 1 win vs the Colts. I was tempted to pick them under the radar as most of my pool was leaning panthers (which I eventually went with). However, I've watched football for years. Detroit always has a bad game after they come off a huge win. Sure enough, they lost to Tennessee, in a game they easily could have won, and a decent chunk of my pool is gone.

There's always a couple of teams that aren't performing to expectations now. Seattle and Miami come to mind off the top of my head. There will always be a couple of teams that perform above expectations. You have to change things up. Obviously you can't and shouldn't pick massive favourites every week but there's no need to make crazy plays during the first few weeks of the season. JMO.
