Nigel Hayes on Tyler Herro: "This is going to make some people mad. I was one of the ones who advised him not to go to Wisconsin with the talent he has."

I think this is bitterness on his part of how his time there went.

Since we generally can't land the one-and-dones, we sign four year guys that become the focal point of the offense as upperclassmen (which in turn leads to one-and-dones being uninterested). Nigel broke the mold by being a starter and the third option as a freshman and sophomore.

He realized an NBA career was a possibility and shifted his mentality towards achieving that goal. The main way he did that was messing with his shot mechanics, without guidance from the coaching staff, to get a quicker release. But that made his three point shooting percentage drop from 39.6% in his first two seasons to 30.0% in his final two. His inside-the-arc shooting dropped from 52.7% to 44.5% as well.

Add thatn to the fact the Ethan Happ arrived on the scene and became the focal point of the offense when Nigel (and Bronson Koenig) had "earned their due" to be the offensive leaders, and you get frustration with the program and bitterness about not even getting to be "the guy" and pointing blame for a lack of an NBA career when, let's be honest, it's because he's an undersized power forward that can't make up for it with athleticism or scoring/shooting ability.
