Nightlight necessity, The Whine, and several other Q's for a 2ish y.o.

1 - You can turn the night light off after they go to bed. I wait till my boys konk out and then just go in and turn them off. There's no correlation worth noting.

2 - Start working on ignoring them. Too many parents don't realize just how important ignoring your kid is in terms of helping with development. Just get up and leave the room. Go read a book.

3 - Welcome to having a kid. I've probably solved about 400 math problems this week because my 5 year is fascinated with asking, "What's 6 plus 7? What's 10 plus 19? What's..."

They're just connecting with you. When you get bored of it, distract them with something else.

4 - Kids appetites come and go as they grow. Sometimes my kid can pack away 5 peanut butter waffles, other days he barely finishes half a cracker. They'll let you know when they're hungry. Worst thing you can do is force them to eat when they're genuinely not hungry. Get in the habit of saving/reheating what they don't eat. Kids don't exactly have the same caveats we do about reheated macaroni and cheese.

5 - I just get rid of them, even for my own books. Dust adds character.
