Nine medical schools in Japan rigged entrance exams to benefit men and relatives of alumni: Nine of Japan’s 81 medical schools manipulated their entrance exams to favor men and relatives of alumni, the education ministry said Friday in final report on its probe into university admission processes.

To play devil's advocate - why should we be concerned with Japan's social policies if it's been working for them? I mean, they're arguably the most scientifically advanced country in the world, and they're the only country in the world that has built their economy to where it is today with very little help from foreigners. Compare that to the US, Canada or South Africa, where gentrification from foreigners is the reason why they've developed so much over the last few decades.

Yes, they're sexist, homophobic and xenophobic, but maybe that's part of the reason why they were able to get to where they are today. Perhaps having a males dominate the medical/engineering field is the reason why they're so advanced.
