Nintendo Disagrees With Sony About Games Industry Slump

Sony Group Corp. last week said its PlayStation business lost steam this spring. Sales of PlayStation 4 and 5 titles fell from a year earlier and playtime plunged 15% in the quarter.

I mean compared to Nintendo, quality PS games aren't exactly piling up, most were delayed and GT7 was underwhelming ( I have it).

Ragnarok is going to be awesome and will sell like crazy that's a no-brainer tho.

Whilst the current catalogue is not that rich and contains many PS4 crossplatform games, they focus on the PS VR and spend resources on it, so of course it's not going to be the same dynamic, Sony is on a long term strategy with the PS5, they can afford to take their time and make a smooth PS4 to PS5 transition.

They don't care about near term, the PS5 is selling like hot cakes but there are still 100+M PS4 out there and chipsets shortage that slow the PS5 momentum.

On the other side Nintendo has a PACKED 2022 year be it third party or first parties:

That 2022, just one freaking year on the switch:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Mario + Rabbids 2
  • Splatoon 3
  • Pokemon gen 9 (each doing 20M at least)
  • Live-a-live
  • Mario Kart DLCs
  • Bayonetta 3
  • Mario Striker (underwhelming for me but not sales wise)
  • Nintendo switch sports
  • Kirby adventure
  • Pokemon Arceus
  • Many third parties multiplatform like Persona 5, Tactics Ogre etc.

So I'm 200% with Nintendo on that one, they are just absolutely not on the same pace how can one speak of a global trend when your aggregated software sales in 2022 will be dozens and dozens of millions and on the other side you are working on PS VR 2 and have one or two exclusives titles releasing ?
