No, not really. I'm a fan of technicalities as much as your average redditor but in this case you're incorrect. Horizontal text in Japanese is virtually* never read right to left, it's always left to right. There was a relatively brief period of time sometime between the Meiji and Taisho/early Showa era where they still hadn't standardized "western" horizonal writing of Japanese, so you can stumble upon examples like in OP of very old signs or newspaper column titles being right to left, but with the advent of the writing reform in the early 1900s they pretty much made it so that horizontal writing is always going to be left to right. Saying that technically speaking both are right is just incorrect.

  • I say virtually because the only exception I've seen is in some very specific company logos but you can probably count them with one hand.
