I’ve gotten 5 new pets in my lifetime, 3 cats and 2 dogs in the last 15 years. It’s… not that hard, providing you like animals and research what you need to do to care for them before you bring them home. If someone finds it debilitatingly difficult, it’s probably not for them, and that’s OK.

My puppy is a year and a half old. He needed a lot of care and handling his first 3 months with us, and it was fine. I knew what to expect because I did my homework and talked with my vet and a trainer. I do have compassion for people who have hard moments, but “the puppy blues” sounds a bit ridiculous. Do you want your dog, or not? No one is entitled to a pet and nobody NEEDS to keep one.
