NJ Cop shoots and kills dog after jumping fence into wrong backyard with gun drawn. Witnesses claim cover-up.

Hi all,

I just wanted to take a minute to give a sincere thank you to everyone who has been supportive. With your help, including numerous phone calls and emails to the Wyckoff police department, we have made a difference.

As of now the police department is taking this matter more seriously. Here in Bergen county its very difficult to get the police's attention on such matters. The communities are small and cops know that if they let the people vent for a bit that the matter will simply go away with time.

Thanks to the overwhelming support from all of you, that is not going to happen.

The police have returned to the scene and have gathered facts from witnesses, all which corroborate the stories you have heard mentioned from people discounting the police. This is after the Chief of Police in Wyckoff was quoted saying "I don’t believe these people exist, quite frankly, but we’re going to attempt to do it." I understand that several of the news articles you may have read offer a different account. Most of those facts in those stories have been provided by the police in an attempt to cover up the truth and protect their own officer. If you read the updated versions now though, many have begun taking the witnesses perspectives into account. Here is one: http://newjersey.news12.com/news/cop-shoots-kills-dog-after-responding-to-wrong-house-1.10353370

There are a couple important facts I would like to bring up:

1) A shell casing was found at the entrance to the gate. The blood from when the dog was shot is a distance away in the middle of the yard. This proves the officer shot the dog at a distance.

2) Witnesses to the act say that the officer did NOT ring the doorbell. If he had, the dog would have began barking and the officer would have been alerted to his presence.

3) The Wyckoff police have not offered any apology whatsoever. The officer has not been heard from. They are taking this as a matter of "lost property" for all intents and purposes. At least they were until YOUR outcry for justice.

4) IMPORTANT*** The police were originally called to inspect damage on a window across the street. There was absolutely ZERO need for urgency. There was no burglar, there was no "suspicious activity". There was no need for the officers actions. He went to the wrong address, rushed into a backyard, and killed a pet.

5) The officer discharged 4 rounds, in a suburban neighborhood, at a moving target, around 4PM. Dangerous. Many people here can't even remember the last time an officer had to shoot his gun, let alone use one to kill a dog. Keep in mind, the officer sustained ZERO injuries.

According to several outlets the officer is now facing disciplinary action. We will see. I promise not to let up until something is done. Until the police treat our pets like the family that they are. Until justice is served.

Thank you all again. More updates to follow.
