NME News: Muse say they want to turn new album 'Drones' into a musical

Dude, I got a little too excited about this and stayed up last night imagining the story. I also had two alternative endings with the potential for the Defector and the Globalist to be two parts of the same person. Mostly it follows exactly what all the lyrics say, with minor action and plot points added, but here goes, if anyone is still around to read this. Dramatis Personae Defector (D): Protagonist Globalist (G): Antagonist, also known as the Handler Ex lover (X): G's lover New love (L): the new hope D finds

Song Listing (asterisks denote action between numbers) Dead Inside: G to X Inciting incident to the play G starts moving up the ranks of power as a result of his soullessness At some point reaches a general stage Drill Sergeant: G (or G's sergeant) to opressed Psycho(V1 and chorus only): G to opressed (not including D at this point) Cut to D's story D has his own breakup but his story cuts over before "Now I've become just like you Maybe even play a bit of Dead Inside again, "Feel me now...I can't give you anymore" Mercy: D to world Final dark chord: D crumbles Reapers: D to world/narrative "There's a cross-hair locked on my heart" D still recognizes the attempt to destroy his heart/soul/mind over just outright killing him D either recognizes there is no way to fight and enlists himself, or is captured and enlisted by force Psycho(V2 and on): G to D G starts really going off the deep end here, drones were protocol but now he is making "super-drones" and the hunger for power is overwhelming his mind G has risen to the rank of 2nd in command Either in this song or in the next narrative break, G sends D to assassinate the commander-in-chief D is completely under the control of G and does his bidding at whim G continues his mad, blind power consolidation, including having the commander-in-chief killed This also could be the point at which G, now in the highest position of power, starts killing off his psychos and drone pilots out of mad paranoia and power need D meets L and possibly other rebels, and this starts his desire for new freedom instead of control The Handler: D to G At this point D is only desiring his own freedom, not the downfall of G D frees from G and joins L and the resistance D confesses to the things he's done, L forgives and tells him about another assassination JFK: [played by]L to D D recognizes his part in the making of the mess JFK describes D returns to confront G Defector: D to G G starts or continues slaughtering/decommissioning his psychos en masse Revolt: D to opressed & psychos "You're not a drone" targets specifically the refugee former drone pilots As the resistance grows, G becomes more crazy, needs more percieved power and kills more people to get it **Resistance realizes G is destroying his own regime, they become refugees and start to flee the nation D goes to face G one last time Globalist(V1): G to D One last attempt on G's part to turn D into himself G has escalated his need to kill and now doesn't just want to kill the psychos but needs to destroy everyone [Instrumental before countdown]: G goes into own personal bunker, D flees nation with L, others who are trying to escape [Countdown & Fire]: Missiles shoot and explosions begin See government buildings (specifically X's) destroyed Globalist(V2): G to ghost of X "I think, I destroyed them all": See the survivors that have left in ships, or touching down in other countries, but with massive explosions across the sea visible Only G's nation was actually destroyed, but G doesn't realize this for sure Drones: Presumed ghost of D to G As voices pile in the ghost of X steps forward, chorus of ghosts in the back field of view Aftermath: D to L In new nation, still war-torn Saddened at the loss of those still in G's nation Refugees join in at the end singing to each other and to their own lovers
