I've present during a school shooting, I've heard the gunfire, I had a student rush into my office crying in terror, I saw people taking cover.

I wasn't in the room that was being shot up but if my boss had signed some papers a 10 minutes sooner I might have been in the building, might have even held the door open for the shooter like I would anyone else.

I can personally confirm you don't need to immediately present to have trauma associated with an act of violence.

That said: She was there and being targeted. They had zip ties, tasers, and other weapons and intended to abduct and kill them.

That's so much worse than what I went through.
