[no regrets] I hate fandoms sometimes

I'm a part of A LOT of fandoms like this and it irks me. You can't say anything without someone jumping down your throat. I stopped trying to have conversations with people because of this. I refuse to argue over something like this, but I love to share ideas and opinions, and that's just not possible because someone always jumps in and yells at you about why you're wrong.

Using ships and sexuality as an example: A character can be the epitome of a straight, cis person, but if they want that character to be gay, or they ship them in a homosexual relationship, they get angry that the writers don't do it or they read into every tiny thing and will argue, "But that one time he looked at him for a second longer than normal, THEY'RE IN LOVE!" Despite any and all evidence to the contrary (up to and including the characters actually wanting to murder each other).

Similarly, the writers could queerbait to high heaven, never intending to give people the ship they're hinting at, and those writers will be praised. If you try to point out, no matter how calmly or rationally, how problematic that is, and how it isn't actual representation, and how that's manipulative, you get talked down to because to them, it's as good as canon. It only becomes a problem when it becomes abundantly clear that they're not getting what they want.

I'm a part of a roleplay group for one fandom and I genuinely don't want to RP with anyone outside of the small group of friends I've made (some of whom don't agree with everything I believe, but will have a normal, respectful conversation) because I've seen some of the vile shit they've dealt with regarding this shit. Like, this is supposed to be fun. Why do you have to make this so stressful and dramatic? When I first started, I was really excited to get to talk to and write with so many new people, but that quickly changed.
