I agree that there are some mileposts that were set down in the DA Bible or whatever they call it that remain to be revealed, but we've seen that there is a lot of latitude to change direction and emphasis and make unimportant what used to be critically important, e.g., Blights.

Retconning is only the beginning. I'm much more negative about the latitude and wiggle room in shifting priorities. For example, the Blights used to be the big threat and the Wardens the heroes (albeit shades of grey heroes, they are Grey Wardens after all). Now nobody seems to care about the threat of Blights anymore and the GW are in complete disarray. Tossed off the stage for the sake of ancient elven shenanigans. Arguably not retconning, but still incredibly unsatisfying in the same way that a retcon is.

That's what frustrates me. Each installment has to top the previous in world threat and spectacle, leaving previous threats by the wayside.
