Amazon paid no federal taxes on profit up until 2018 because it had no net profit until 2018. The losses in its early history were so massive that they were only fully remunerated last year. If they paid anything greater than a 0% federal tax on their "profits", the government would be handing them money.

They still pay plenty of payroll and local taxes, but those don't make the headlines.

It's a bog-standard warehouse job. They all suck. When you have hundreds of thousands of people doing manual labor, some will get injured. The risk at amazon is somewhat below par for the course for warehouse jobs. Only because of the scale and the name brand are there more incidents to report on. Also critical is the fact that it's Americans dying, as opposed to kids in their world sweatshops.
