Trying to talk about this shit on Reddit is like trying to talk about systemic racism at a Mississippi fishing contest.

People on here seem to like to pretend these kinds of issues don't exist long before they'll actually even consider taking them seriously and will jump through hoops to "prove" they aren't real problems. It's not even so much a "Tumblr thing" as it is a totally normal conversation being had all the time in various settings (like my goddamn entry year criminology class even) that happens to be talked about a lot on Tumblr. Like, half the political shows Reddit (used to?) fawn over talk about this shit ALL THE TIME. The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, even the Colbert Report touches on it from time to time IIRC. Hell I think I've seen Chris Hardwick talk about this shit on @ fucking Midnight. But no, the mostly late teen to early twenty middle class male population of Reddit has a far better grasp on the situation than any of those guys.

I see people on here describing "SJWs" (AKA anyone on Tumblr who talks about these issues ever) as entitled whiney brats, but honestly, after 4 years on Reddit and 6 months on Tumblr, I'd honestly say it feels the other way around.

When people are seriously questioning if the Southern Water Tribe is really Patriarchal, WHEN IT WAS BLATANTLY DESIGNED TO BE PATRIARCHAL AS FUCK (like that was the whole damn point of the episode ffs) I do have to wonder if anybody on here actually knows what that word means or anything about the discussions its used in.
