Since I've sent this to everyone who offered to help, I may as well do it here too...
So, the working title is, “Tom Riddle and Conflicts of Interest”. Basically I am going to focus on Tom’s 5th year in Hogwarts. I believe it was the year he found the chamber of secrets, and a lot of interesting things happened, if I’m wrong about the year, well I’m using the 5th anyways.
The story will be from his perspective(ish); each chapter will focus on an encounter with somebody, or some event or revelation, all building to something. I can’t say this is exactly the Tom Riddle that will grow to be “Defense Professor Quirrell”, but I am basing this loosely off of HPMOR cannon, with my own changes as I see fit for the sake of the story, and limited cunning compared to EY. I do have a general story arc planned out; I’d like to cover the entire year, with a major divergence from cannon happening at the end.
My overall goal, which I hope you can help me with, is to create an intelligent Tom Riddle who is on the brink of his major life decision. Does he want to be an all-powerful dark lord and play games with, and kill the stupid. Or would he rather become a major force in changing the overall stupidity of the magical community? I also want to start to do like EY did a bit, and go into the mechanics of magic heavily.
Let me know what you think of this first chapter. Does it seem interesting? I know my grammar leaves something to be desired but I’m not overly concerned about that unless others find it a fatal flaw. Is there anything glaringly bad about it so far? Any thoughts or opinions of any kind, negative or positive will be appreciated, though I know 2500 words isn't much to judge yet.

ALSO, ANY “Harry potter universe” sounding names you can come up with, I would love to hear. I need some names for students (If you can remember any cannon characters that actually were in his year that would help, I already have an arc for David Monroe (IMO the “Draco” to Tom’s “Harry” in cannon). I know Dumbledore was transfiguration, Slughorn was potions, and “Dippet” was headmaster, unless there is another highly established one, I will just make them up.
