[NO SPOILERS] Just finished watching the first episode of Game of Thrones for the first time.

Winning awards doesn't mean anything lmao. And it increased in viewership because of what a cultural phenomenon it had become. It was the tv version of keeping up with the Joneses.

It's widely accepted that the last season was bad. It's generally accepted that season 7 was bad and that 5 and 6 were noticeably worse than 1-4, with the generally accepted exception being that the last 2 episodes of season 6 were great.

You don't have to agree with every word of the preceding paragraph. I know I don't, but none of it is revisionist history. It's what fans were saying at the time and it's what fans still say.

I agree with you though that op should keep an open mind though and give the whole show a chance. If nothing more they'll be able to join in on all the shit talk online. Maybe they'll even like it.
