I don't think it would be hard for them to make both endings cannon like some fanfics have done. Not many games can do that, but because Max has time travel powers it is possible. I just don't think Don't Nod would like risk ruining their masterpiece, It'll be like adding eyeliner to the Mona Lisa.

I would still love a true sequel to season 1 though.
