This is unfair though because there are plenty of extremists in all fandoms. There are Lauriver fans who believe they'll be together because of prophetic dreams. seriously. Lauriver fans (plural ) believe that there is a fan with divine premonitions of comic cannon.
I thought that convo was pretty cute, and she original poster didn't bash Felicity to elevate Laurel, as this Marilyn woman did in her article.
Besides, I don't think Marilyn Porter is any extremist. Her opinions are very standard in the oliciter fandom. You can read similar stuff every day on tumblr and other oliciter fan spaces:
Oliver and Felicity are a match made in heaven and the centerpiece of the show. They are both flawless and their romance is the most epic on television.
Felicity is God's gift to humanity.
"The Original Team Arrow" (a term which nobody outside the oliciter fandom uses) is an exclusive club, where only Diggle and Felicity should be allowed, because they are the only ones who are worthy of helping Oliver in his mission. Of course, Marilyn is prepared to accept Thea on the hallowed team, probably because she is Felicity's future sister-in-law (yup, that's what many tumblr bloggers call her!).
Everybody dislikes Laurel and she has no place on the hallowed "Original Team". The best thing would be if she were written off the show, because she is so worthless anyway. The only reason she is still on the show is because Katie Cassidy has a contract for six years.
Felicity is SO beloved by the whole fandom that she is used to "prop" impopular characters like Laurel and "creepy stalker" Ray. Especially Laurel is so odious and leperous that Felicity shouldn't be allowed to share scenes with her. Besides, these scenes are so "inorganic", because who wants to be friends with such a despicable person as Laurel Lance? As someone remarked, Marilyn and her buddies probably think that scenes where Felicity is getting love counselling from DC villains like Ra's al Ghul (or Katana) are more "organic".
Laurel's useless Black Canary arc "sidelined" the members of the hallowed "Original Trio", like Diggle. Of course, Marilyn conveniently forgot that Ms. Felicity Smoak has about one hour and a half more screen time than most other characters, including Diggle. She has also taken over Diggle's role as Oliver's hero counsellor (because she is his "moral compass"), which means that it might actually be Felicity who has diminished Diggle's role. Of course, that is unthinkable, because 2 (Felicity is God's gift to humanity).
Anyone who has had even a fleeting experience of the Felicity/Olicity fandom could easily recognize each and every trope in this article. In fact, I would say that Marilyn Porter's article was a distillation of a thousand Oliciter blog posts and manifestos. So, I would say that her opinions are very mainstream, and very indicative of what many of her co-shippers think.
