[No Spoilers] Weekly chat thread June 04, 2015

so yesterday was kind of a really crappy day for me :( when I'm not playing Dragon Age, reading about it, or talking about it on this subreddit, i have a job. as a makeup artist. i work in a high end luxury retail makeup store where we also have a makeup studio where we do makeup on clients. i've been in the industry for 5 years and while i believe i always have more to learn, i'm a pretty experienced artist. last week i got to do makeup on a pretty prolific celebrity client, and she told me it was for the cover of a MAJOR magazine. she said they would have a makeup artist on set at the photoshoot, but she preferred to get her makeup done where i work. i was super excited because having my makeup work on the cover of such a major magazine was a pretty big deal.

so yesterday the magazine came out and i was finally able to share it with my friends & family, i was so excited and posted it on facebook and everything. well the makeup artist they had on set at the shoot was NOT happy about that... she sent me a message on facebook and said that while the client did have her makeup done when she came to the shoot, she "made adjustments" to that makeup and "made it her own" so it wasn't right for me to take credit for it and that i should take down all my posts and everything. i was absolutely MORTIFIED, apologized a thousand times and took down any post claiming that i did the makeup immediately, and me and this other makeup artist reached a friendly understanding.

i was really embarrassed and pretty upset about the whole situation and just wanted to forget about it, but then all of my coworkers and several other makeup artists in the industry here got really pissed off on my behalf and started saying that i SHOULD take credit for the makeup, we don't know what kind of adjustments the other artist did or didn't do, she could have just put some powder and lipgloss on the girl... i took pictures of her in my chair the day i did her makeup and everyone says the makeup on the cover looks just like the makeup i did... my boss and one of my coworkers got into a fight with this other makeup artist and it just turned into a huge big ordeal :( everyone urged me to put the posts back up saying that i did the makeup, to not back down and let this other artist intimidate me and stuff and that she was wrong and trying to take credit for MY work.

i am literally the LEAST confrontational person in the world, i would cut off my own arm to avoid an argument with someone, which is why everyone was getting pissed off on my behalf because i wasn't pissed off on my own behalf, i was just embarrassed. i'm not going to put the posts back up, i'm not going to fight this lady, she was the artist on set so she gets credit in the actual magazine regardless of how much makeup she did or didn't do. this is just a really horrible situation for me - something i was so excited about as a major career milestone has now turned into this huge messy debacle and i just want to forget everything about it :( jeez that was an absolute novel. it just feels good to type it all out. i'm still pretty upset about it cause it's so fresh, but i really want to just move on and forget it. at the end of the day, the other makeup artist knows how much makeup she did or didn't do for that cover, and if she's trying to take credit for something she didn't do, she has to live with that. i'd rather be the bigger person and let it go and just be satisfied with knowing how much of her makeup i did, and that it was good work. i'm off work today so i'm just going to lay in bed and watch Always Sunny and read my Dragon Age comics and maybe day drink, and hopefully feel better soon.
