American woman here from the NYC area... I’ve asked men out but only via OLD. And it’s not so much a date as much as a “you seem cool, let’s grab a drink and see if we are compatible”. I’ve always been shy about in person asking out but that could just be a reflection of modern dating and my own past experiences. I’ve maybe tried the in person thing once or twice. Never worked. I think there are so many variables when it comes to the US though because it’s so diverse here. I have friends that are American but were born in Poland or Italy or the DR and they all have different approaches. Also, in your case you may just be more appealing to English woman than to American woman for whatever reason. I don’t mean that to be offensive, I just know I get a lot more attention in some counties than in others. Traveling in Spain/Portugal makes me feel like a friggin super model (I look very Mediterranean for what it’s worth— Italian heritage). In New York I usually just feel like hot garbage. In the Midwest I do slightly better lol.
