Non Compete after I’ve been laid off

So in your case where it is your only skill there is even less likely that it would be enforced because the court would never expect you to go and learn a new skill to get a new job.

The idea behind the non-competence to protect the employer, so for example if you were to go directly after their clients then something like that would be enforceable but with over several million people in whichever province you're in it's not expected that you can't approach other people that are not your employer's clients.

What your employer should have done is written in the agreement a non solicit which is different from a non-compete and would have given them better protection.

Whatever you do, stay clear of their clients and their should be no reason for a judge to enforce a non-compete such as the one that you have..
