Non-Muslims, what questions do you have about Islam?

Here's a pretty good post from /u/harensenpai that should answer your question:

Let's put sex slavery on hold for a second and just talk about slavery. What is your opinion on slavery? Should it be banned? If you say yes, then consider the following: 6th century Arabia. Men may marry unlimited women simultaneously. Girls are buried alive. Women are like cattle: can't travel alone because it isn't safe+def can't own property. Women voting? Forget about it -- voting doesn't even exist for men yet because the concept of shuurah hasn't even been introduced. There is no such thing as the police. Protection comes from having strong family members, thus sons and an honorable tribe. When two tribes battle and one gets the upper hand, usually all the members of the losing tribe are killed. Our Prophet prohibited this. So if you can't kill the women and the children, what are you supposed to do with them?

>* Kill them can't do that due to the aforementioned reason.
>* Let them go free. Well, you just wiped out the majority of the male / fighting population of the tribe... who exactly are those women supposed to go home to? Who is going to be protecting them now? If they were left alone, there's a greater chance even more harm would fall to them, now that they've lost both their source of livelihood as well as protection.
>* Enslave them, take them with you, and take care of them.

If you have other options I haven't thought of please let me know. So now we have a bunch of chicks and children who were the family members of the slain men. It's now our Islamic obligation to feed them from the food we eat. Clothe them with the clothes we wear. And provide them with shelter and basically take care of their needs, because they are an amanah upon us.

Okay so now there are slaves. What is the definition of a slave? One who is completely subservient to their owner or a dominating influence. The definition of completely subservient means one who has to do whatever their owner wants. There are already so many threads on this sub which talk about the various ways Islam has introduced to curb the creation of new slaves and the numerious doors Islam opened for their emancipation. And the example of our Prophet, family + companions demonstrate their actions freeing literally 10s of thousands of slaves.

But if you're a guy. And you find yourself with a beautiful female slave, which was acquired through legal and halal channels. You're taking care of all her needs, financial, etc. She uses your property and time. She isn't a blood relative. Mmmmm this sounds familar. And you don't want to engage in a halal relationship with her? I mean, there's only so much you can do for a sister that you aren't married to. It's not like the dude is going kill the chick or just get off on her and then discard her onto the streets. He has to take care of her similar to how a wife is taken care of. The understanding I'm getting from you is that you think these women are held in chains or boxes and they're just used for sex, nothing else. Or that their masters can rent them out to other people for sex. In reality, neither of these can happen in Islam.

But let's turn the table around. If it wasn't the Muslims who won the battle and it was the disbelievers, do you think they would have any problems sleeping with their slave captives? Don't tell me that over the past 1400 years society has become sooo much more civil. You don't even need to be an enemy captive to get raped as a woman. Just ask the parent's of the female US soldier in Iraq who was raped and killed by her own US male peers. Or the one who took her own life at the barracks after the army tried to cover up and subsequently dismissed the charges lobbied against those she alleged raped her. If this is how female US soldiers are treated, what about the conqurerd people? This has been the same tune played over the entire history of US wars.
