You don't need full Dragon to proceed. If anything, you're fine with a Dragon Skirt (Cheaper, lighter weight than legs), a Fighters Torso (from Barbarian Assault. Takes time to get, free), Dragon Boots, Abyssal Whip, Glory, Black Mask.

Dragon Chainbody is a complete waste of money to be honest. Fighter's Torso gives a solid str boost, and it's completely free. It just takes a while to get, playing a minigame.

But as far as the Abyss goes, yes, it's your best bet for crafting Nature Runes. Your stats are fine for the Abyss. Just wear some light-weight armor. BearHead, Boots of Lightness, Spotted/Spottier Cape, or a basic cape, Mithril Pickaxe (Lighter weight than other pickaxes), Some Dragonhide Armor is good or Graahk armor, Elemental or Mind Shield, Amulets of Glory (multiple).

You'll want to level your Mining up to a reasonable level, as well as Agility. Reasonable being 40-50. These allow you to use the shortcuts into the center of the Abyss more easily. Doric's Quest, and The Digsite provide substantial experience for Mining. You can look into what quests give Agility xp. You'll want Agility anyway, in order to maintain run energy while Runecrafting.

If you're having second thoughts about Runecrafting, you can look into a guide on how to use the Blast Furnace. Doing The Knights Sword gives a massive level jump in Smithing. You want to smelt Steel, or better at the Blast Furnace.

If neither of these sound like something you're interested in, you can do Clue Scrolls! Without many quests done, Level 2 Clue Scrolls may be best for you. There are a lot of items you can get worth quite a lot. But this relies entirely on getting lucky.

Last, there's Dragonhide Tanning. Not super profitable. But it's something like 300k an hour I believe. It's been a while. But all you have to do is buy Dragonhides, tan them in Al Kharid, and sell them. This has no requirements at all, and the only thing that will aid you in this, would be decent Agility, to run a little longer.
