It's such a ridiculous load of horseshit.

With customization, there will be less clones on your team than any previous BF game.

And pretending you won't be able to tell whether an enemy is that or a friend because of their uniform is beyond ridiculous too. Apart from the fact that say the 3 Assault models in BF4 are virtually indistiguinshable if you're further than 5m from one, a fuckton of popular BF4 servers literally use US vs US teams, and not once has a person ever complained about not being able to tell which team someone is on.

Because that's what the blue fucking dots over teammates are for. The great thing about those is - you don't have to actively look for them. Your brain registers them subconsciously; that's why you can react to enemies appearing before needing to actually check and see "Is there a blue dot?"

That's not the fucking case with something as elaborate as a Uniform that also changes constantly between matches. You need to actively look out for that, and you won't have time for that in 99% of firefights anyway.
