The normalisation of casual sex work is one of the most damaging trends to emerge from the last few years.

I just feel like people have gotten so sex-positive that they forget sex work is still WORK. All work is inherently exploitative in some way. And further, anything you LOVE that you turn into WORK is going to feel like a chore at the end of the day. This whole “if you love what you do you won’t work a day in your life” nonsense is capitalist propaganda trying to convince you that employment and consumption are the ideal ways of living.

Sex work should be legalized and regulated for the safety of its workers, but it certainly shouldn’t be glorified as empowering. Employment isn’t empowering; and yes, being “self-employed” on OnlyFans or even as an amateur PornHub submitter still counts as employment. You are still beholden to your clientele if not a literal, singular boss, and the clientele of sex work isn’t exactly full to the brim with wholesome, well adjusted individuals.
