North Miami cop who shot the unarmed caretaker of a man with autism goes to trial

Part of my job is listening to a police scanner for about 2 hours every weekday. Most of what I hear are calls about a “suspicious looking black male at (location.) wearing jeans and a hoodie walking down the sidewalk. Appears unarmed. Caller wants a drive by to ensure no suspicious activity.”

Just a random dude can walk down the street like a normal person and get the cops called on him. The cops are told ahead of time that he looks suspicious regardless of what he’s been doing.

So they drive by the area. Identify the person. Sometimes stop him and ask where he’s been and where he’s going check for any warrants and then let him go on his way because he’s just a normal dude after all. Happens multiple times every day during my 2 hour window.

I don’t ever remember calls like these coming in about while people.
