Not to say BLM isn’t important but y’all gotta take care of our own too

I see what you’re saying. I recognize the effort that the Canadian governing has put in to reconciliation and I do personally appreciate it but I know native people have very diverse opinions on it lol. However, this is not an issue that can be easily solved. Sure, education about what early settlers did to the First Nations people is important but it only goes so far. In addition, this isn’t a problem that you can throw money at and it will fix. But even with the things the government has been doing, they’ve still been falling short (look at the conditions on reserves for example). But I also recognize that this is a two-way road and we need to be actively looking to better things as well. Where I think the bigger issue is here is the way that Canadians treat indigenous folk, not how the government does and that’s what I was trying to reference in my meme. It’s hard (maybe even impossible) to compare the treatment of black people in the states versus native people here so I really can’t speak much on that. But I have plenty of white friends who say that they are generally scared of First Nations people in public whereas when they see a black person they don’t think much of it. Now I know that natives have been painted with a negative brush and again, the reasons behind this are very very complex with many groups to blame including us and finger pointing is a hurtful game that yields no progress so I won’t bother. But, in my mind I do firmly believe that indigenous people in Canada are treated worse than black people in Canada (change my view if you can though, I’m open). But like it’s been said in previous comments on my post, it’s not the suffering Olympics here. Change is necessary in both cases and I hope to see this in the future but only time will tell if this will be another “fad” and if it’ll all drop off our timelines in a week. Anyways, I’m not trying to school you by any means permafrost, and I’m hoping that some other Redditors will make it this far down into the comments and see this themselves and think on what I’ve had to say. Thanks for leaving a constructive comment on my post and engaging in a dialogue. Stay safe out there!
