Please DO read some more history ... I will suggest the Italian Scholar Andrea Vitali's Tarot site and the well-known tarot author Robert Place.

You will find that Tarocchi was designed from its inception to include mystical and New Platonic symbolism. And although it was designed for gaming rather than divination, it was adapted by Italian fortune tellers for divination by the 1500s. These are all credible historic facts documented by respected historians.

So, actually more like 600 years from the 1400s to the 2000s. But I count it as 500 since our earliest records of Tarocchi being used for fortune telling date to 1500s.
