find it racist that all you see is white people. There is dozens of nationalities represented.
Can you name those dozens? I am not asking for downvotes, I am genuinely curious esp. with the possibility of a lot of non-US involvement in Hollywood. Edit: Dude, "Ashkenazi Jew" is not a nationality.
Bryan Cranston - German/Irish/Jewish Matt Damon - English/Finnish/Swedish/Scottish Leonardo DiCaprio - Italian/German/Russian Michael Fassbender - German/Irish Christian Bale - English/German Tom Hardy - English/Irish Mark Ruffalo - Italian/French-Canadian Mark Rylance - English/Irish Sylvester Stallone - Italian/French/German Cate Blanchett - English/Scottish/French Rooney Mara - Irish/German/French-Canadian/Italian Rachel McAdams - English/Welsh/Irish/Scottish/Dutch Alicia Vikander - Swedish/Finnish Kate Winslet - English/Swedish Brad Pitt - English/German/Scottish/Welsh/Irish/Dutch/French Steven Spielberg - Ashkenazi Jewish Ed Guiney - Irish
There's at least a dozen.
Most of the others are difficult to find ethnicity for unless you go into their family tree, for which I don't feel like spending the hours searching. My main point is that we forget how many different cultures there are in the world since we are getting shoved together so much in social media/the age of information. 100 years ago people were racist against someone who could have lived 20 miles from them just because of that fact. There needs to be more serious roles taken by nationalities other than anglo-caucasian. I can't protest to know how easy or difficult it is for any race/ethnicity to get into the movie business but there has to be a larger resurgence into the industry if people want more awards to be presented to a broader scope of people. About 10% of the acting community that is prevalent in Hollywood is Black. Another 10% goes to Asian/Hispanic/other ethnic backgrounds pooled. 80% of these actors are some form of caucasian. This figure roughly represents the percentages of people living in the US. Odds are really against minorities to getting awards just by sheer numbers. I wouldn't put any blame on the Academy, put it on recruiters/directors/scouting agents/AND minority actors/actresses. They need more numbers to get past the majority of people in the business.
TLDR; Minorities have to get more people involved in movie making/The industry needs to try and find more minority talent to have a better chance at nominations.
Oh boy
