But don't act like AUS was just equally applying rules. It is a bit more nuanced.

But Australian government was one which did him dirty. They didn't deport him to protect Australia, but to score political points.

Australian PM was saying a day before Djokovic's arrival that exemptions for AO participants are matter for Victoria government.

Before Novak's post, they let several individuals under same exemptions into the country. After he posted that he got exemption, press and people on social media started stirring the shit how AUS government makes separate rules for rich and famous.

Scott entered into damage management mode, and made the decision to make an example of Djokovic. While Novak was mid flight from Dubai, they instructed Australian Border Force to detain him and cancel his visa. They also hunted other who used same exemption and canceled their visas to avoid appearance of singling out Djokovic.

After their initial cancelation was thrown on procedural grounds (as they were using dirty tricks with sleep deprivation to get Novak to sign on his swift deportation without legal representation), they finally canceled his visa, but using a different basis: powers reserved for a government minister to personally threw someone out without ability to appeal on merits.

So, I am mad at Novak for being stupid and getting into this mess, but Australian government did threw him out for political reasons, to score cheap points in upcoming elections which were not looking good for PMs party.
