Now that Google Play Music is going away, how will you stream your own MP3s to Sonos?

This is good to know.

I don’t want to drift off topic (not saying that you are; you aren’t... but I’m about to), most of our set up is old school wired. Background: We have a very good (for our budget) 7.1.2 wired home theater and a secondary 5.1 system cobbled together from leftovers. Both are linked via AirPlay 2. At the moment, the only SONOS are two Ones in a rec room; combined with those other two, we have wireless (mostly) whole home audio. Eventually we plan on doing a wireless set up in here but we’re not there quite yet. It’s the plan and we may eventually phase out that shoddy 5.1. One of our favorite things about SONOS is how easily it can be scaled as budget allows.

Music is currently run via iTunes. External hard drive attached to a laptop. It can be controlled either by iTunes or Jriver, pulling from the same audio files. Neither of us has experience with setting up networks. From what I’ve read, we can plug the external to our router’s Ethernet port once we set up proper sharing permissions and it should be pretty simple. Trouble is, she and I are even simpler! I’ve already moved the router onto our external battery backup in case there’s an outage so that the drive — I think — isn’t at risk.

That’s a lot of rambling, and they don’t even pay me by the word. Sorry for that;)
